It's a situation began with the collapse of the Soviet Union, but still today poor families from the countryside move to Odessa, as in other large cities, in the hope of finding work and when things go wrong children are often left to themselves. The best estimates say that more than 100,000 children live on the streets of Ukraine. They beg, steal, and become prostitutes. They don't go to school, they have no documentation, some inject themselves with drug store chemicals or squirt glue into a plastic bag and inhale. It is estimated 4,000 homeless children live only on the streets of Odessa. For street children looking to change their lives, two non-governmental organization called 'The Way Home', in partnership with UNICEF, and 'This Child here' are a hope of succeeding. Specially for helping children directly in the street the team of ?The Way Home? created a mobile help station «Social Patrol». «Social Patrol» brings first medical aid, clothes, food and a hope to start another, normal life to the street kids. *** Local Caption *** The bedrooms of the 'Way Home'. There are 20 boys and girls now in the rooms of the 'Way Home'. All of them have applied to stay there and to do not go back on the street. There are rules to which they must submit if they want to stay. After a period of adjustment can take lessons in state schools or basic education courses organized within the NGO's structure itself.
